SLO Night With Your Neighbors
Cal Poly and the City of San Luis
Obispo are partnering to sponsor a collaborative city-wide
celebration that seeks to build community through neighborhood
engagement. Historically, the City has been impacted by
tension in neighborhoods between long and short term residents.
That tension can lead to ill-will and a climate of mistrust and
stereotyping between neighbors.
The purpose of the SLO Night With Your
Neighbors event is to encourage long term and student residents to
meet and interact in a positive social environment.
Goals of the Program
- Neighbors meet each other
- Build and establish positive communication between neighbors
at the beginning of the new academic year
- Break down stereotypes
- Strengthen the City and Campus connection
- Set a positive tone for the community
We are looking for
city residents to host a neighborhood party at their home on Friday
September 28th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The type of event
can be of the hosts choosing (potluck – barbeque, dessert, hor de
orves, pizza party, ice cream social, community service, etc).
The SLO Night With
Your Neighbors (SLOWYN) committee will provide you with a party pack
including: invitations, a SLOWYN yard sign, party tips and SLOWYN
gift bags for all of your neighbors who attend. City Fire trucks,
the Cal Poly Band, mascots, city and university dignitaries will
also be making the rounds to visit registered celebrations.
